Return of Library Materials
The Moline Public Library will accept return materials from all PrairieCat libraries. The Moline Public Library will accept library materials for return from any out-of-system Illinois library. Materials may be returned at the the drive up book drop (East side of the building), or at other PrairieCat member libraries. No returns are accepted in the lobby or at service desks.
An item is not considered returned until all of its parts are returned (CDs, liner notes, booklets, instructions, etc.). The item will remain checked out to the patron and fines will accumulate on partially returned items (if overdue) until the return of missing part(s).
Borrowers are responsible for the replacement costs for lost or damaged items.
Replacement costs include the price of the item (at the time of library acquisition) and a nonrefundable $5 processing fee. If damaged material is returned in the book drop, a letter will be sent informing the patron of the amount owed for the damage.
At the discretion of the purchasing staff member, the library accepts replacement copies for lost items. Borrower must still pay processing fees. The replacement copy must be an exact match of the original (i.e., author, titles, year, ISBN, format, etc.) and in new or like new condition. The library reserves the right to refuse any replacement copy.
The library does not issue refunds for lost and paid items that are later found or replacement copies.
Charges for overdue material are as follows:
- Books, audiobooks, magazines, CDs, and educational DVDs- $.25 per day
- Entertainment/feature film DVDs, video games - $1 per day
- Zoo and museum passes, hot spots - $5 per day
Patrons are considered delinquent when they have $5 or more in fines or have 5 items overdue for 1 day. Such patrons are denied checkout and computer use privileges until the delinquency is cleared, brought below the $5 fine threshold, or have less than 5 items overdue.
The Library will send a courtesy overdue notice when materials have not been returned within 7 days after their due date. At 44 days overdue, a bill notice is issued.
The Moline Library is obligated to attempt the recovery of all outstanding debt and/or library materials. To that end, borrowers with fines or fees of $25 or more are subject to contact from a collection agency. A non-negotiable $10 collection fee will be applied to the account of any borrower who is referred to collections.
