We know you need your Library!

But did you know your library needs you?

Friends News & Views Newsletter

Since 1990 the Friends of the Moline Public Library have helped your Library bring quality service to you and everyone in the community.

We want to keep helping, but we need help from other Friends. In fact, we need you – your support, talent, energy, and your ideas.

As a Friend you can be proud to know you have enriched someone else’s life. We have already provided over $192,000 to the Library and have so much more we can do.

You can contact the Friends by mailing us at Friends, P.O. Box 1201, Moline, IL 61266-1201. We welcome your comments and suggestions on what Friends can do better.

Who are the Friends of the Moline Public Library?

The Friends is a volunteer group founded in 1990 and dedicated to supporting the Moline Public Library in order to enhance the services provided to library patrons.

We are dedicated to enhancing the Library services as it faces budgetary challenges and the technological demands of this century. We are funded through our membership dues, magazine sales, book sales, and other fund raising events. Your dues will ensure that the Friends can help the Moline Public Library continue to be one of our community’s finest resources.
The funds are used for materials, equipment, and services that the library would not otherwise be able to provide.

Anyone can be a Friend. If you are interested in joining us, please print and complete the membership form and mail it today. We need your help.

Friends Sale Room Volunteers

The Friends of the Moline Public Library Sale Room in the new library is open. We need volunteers to work in the room to restock shelves, and to assist/checkout customers. Basically the job is to assist patrons in our new store, to accept new donations, and sort received materials in our storage room. A more detailed description is included on the application form.

We need your help as a shift volunteer or as a substitute. The work shifts are two hours and the details of when those times occur are on our downloadable application form. You can also pick up an application form in our Sale Room. Work will be scheduled on a four week rotating schedule.

If you’re not available during the winter or any other specific times, we have a list of substitutes available for any temporary vacancies.

We have training available before you start. All volunteers will work in groups of two or three, so you will always have help. So ask your spouse or friend to sign up and you can work together.

We hope you will be able to join us. Your volunteer assistance and suggestions for this operation are welcome.

Volunteer positions available:

  • Co-manager of Friends Sale Store (job description available upon request)

  • Regularly scheduled shift volunteer

  • Substitute shift volunteer

Thanks for considering this opportunity to help your library. If you have more questions, feel free to call 796-1577.

Book and Magazine Sales

Friends Sale Room

Magazines, books, and various media may be purchased from the Friends Sale Room across from the checkout counters in the new Moline Library. We have hardback, paperback, children’s books, fiction, non-fiction, audio books, music CD’s, cassette tapes, and other media. Our selection includes premium (like new books), pretty good books, and our usual excellent selection of bargain books.

Current magazines, books, and media may be donated at the library by anyone any time the library is open. You may leave your donations in the Sale Room, in our donations drop box in the library lobby, or at the circulation desk. Whatever is convenient for you.

You do not need to be a member to donate. We ask for magazines that are current year (weeklys in current quarter year) any media and books that are in very good condition – hardback and paperback CD, VHS tapes or DVD’s. Our volunteers in the Sale Room will be happy to assist you.
